Use the official IRS and state tools below to check the status of your federal or Georgia state tax refund. Refund status is typically available within 24 hours after the IRS acknowledges receipt of your e-filed return.
Federal Refund — IRS Where's My Refund?
The IRS 'Where's My Refund?' tool is updated once per day, usually overnight. You will need your Social Security number or ITIN, your filing status, and the exact refund amount shown on your return.
- E-filed returns: status available within 24 hours of IRS acknowledgment
- Paper returns: status available 4 weeks after mailing
- Amended returns (Form 1040-X): use the separate 'Where's My Amended Return?' tool
Georgia State Refund — Georgia Tax Center
Georgia residents can check the status of their state income tax refund through the Georgia Tax Center. You will need your Social Security number and the exact refund amount from your Georgia return.
- E-filed Georgia returns: status typically available within 3–5 business days
- Paper Georgia returns: allow 8–12 weeks for processing before checking status
- Have your Georgia return handy — you will need the exact refund amount
What the Refund Status Stages Mean
Return Received
The IRS has received your return and it is in the processing queue. No action is needed on your part.
Refund Approved
Your return has been processed and your refund amount has been confirmed. The IRS is preparing to send your refund.
Refund Sent
Your refund has been sent. Direct deposit refunds typically arrive within 1–5 business days. Paper checks may take 3–4 weeks by mail.
Refund Delayed or Reduced?
If your refund is taking longer than expected, has been reduced, or you received an IRS notice, there may be an issue with your return that requires attention. Contact us — we can review your situation and communicate with the IRS on your behalf.
